Less is more when it comes to creating nice cards. It can be tempting to add lots of different flowers, beads etc, however I find that the best card compositions are those that keep the theme simple.

Chosing a style for your
card. Here are some examples of card styles that I currently
use. If you use a die cutting machine, then you can create many
styles using card and paper, however my style of card focuses on
flowers, leaves, photography etc. Obviously finding a style that
suits you is important if you make your own cards, they are after all
